In recent years, a lot of people in the winter haze intensifies, buy air purifier with spring, air quality is gradually improved, a lot of people think this guy is the close up, after all, is put in the home area, don’t worry, the air purifier now close up too early.

PM2.5 is the main component of haze particles, because the harm to the human body, the removal of PM2.5 has become the primary objective of many people use air purifier, a measure of a good purifier are mainly depends on its ability in this area, but do not think that the air purifier can remove PM2.5 and air pollutants in a variety of PM2.5, just a in addition, formaldehyde, allergens and other health risks.

In fact, in some European and American countries, even if the air quality is very good, the air purifier popularity rate is also high, this is because their air purifier is mainly used to remove pollen, large particles and smoke, TVOC and other domestic pollution gas, even outside the blue skies, the indoor pollutants are present, air the purifier can play a role at any time.

Spring and summer air quality is still worrying

After winter haze weather a lot less obvious, but this does not mean that we can relax our vigilance. From the AQI monitoring data in March of the Beijing daily, a total of 12 days in the mild and more severe pollution, pollution will still appear, so the weather on air purifier is very necessary.

In addition according to the latest data from the Ministry of environmental protection, April 2nd to 5, Tianjin and the surrounding area will usher in a new round of pollution weather, the night of April 4th to 5, the most serious pollution, Beijing, Langfang and Baoding may be severe pollution, visible haze is a year-round concern.

The air purifier is a household appliance that purifies and adsorbs harmful substances in the air through the filter, and can completely remove harmful substances such as suspended particles, formaldehyde and carbon dioxide in the indoor air. Many of the newly renovated family, often residual formaldehyde, benzene, ammonia and other toxic gases, can lead to leukemia, lung cancer, infant malformations and other problems. Relevant data statistics found that more than 80% of annual leukemia patients are caused by indoor air hazards.
Of course, for the removal of indoor air gas pollution problem, not just install an air purifier can be resolved. Currently on the market of air purifier products are numerous, but most can only remove the air in the large suspended particles, hair, dust and other pollution problems. If the air purifier CADR value does not meet certain standards of the product, it is difficult to completely remove the indoor air formaldehyde, benzene, ammonia and other harmful materials. So I recommend for you from China's well-known air purifier brand Olansi products03.

Debate over whether should schools use air purifiers

Debate over whether should schools use air purifiers

With the repeat occurrence of smog in China, many parents call for installation of air purifiers in classrooms. Some parents even offered to pay for the purifiers. However it is refused by school authorities. It has caused hot debate over whether air purifiers should enter schools.

Experts say air purifiers on the market are mostly designed for homes or offices. It still needs evaluation to know if it is useful in classrooms. Education authorities in Shanghai said they will coordinate with relating departments and work for a feasible plan.

Meanwhile, reports said a test has been held in a school in Beijing. After using the air purifier, the level of PM 2.5 in the classroom decreased, but with dozens of students in the enclosed room, the dense of CO2 has passed the healthy standards.

New standards set for air purifiers

New standards set for air purifiers

olans-air-purifier-ols-k06b-5

A new national standard for air purifiers was unveiled by authorities on Friday to bring order to the country’s chaotic purifier market.

The draft national standard, which is also made available for public comment on Friday, will include more specific metrics for measuring the performance of air purifiers, including their “clean air delivery rate” and endurance, China daily reported on Saturday.

The country’s widespread air pollution problem has given rise to a booming market in air purifiers, with total sales volume reaching 2.4 million units in 2013, the report said.

However, the market is chaotic with many producers and sellers of air purifiers exaggerating the performance of products and deliberately misleading consumers during promotions, the report said, citing the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Industry and Commerce.

According to a spot check on 20 air purifiers by the Shanghai Bureau of Quality and Technical Supervision in December, only the products of three companies reached their advertised effectiveness or indicated the space in which they would function effectively, according to the report.

The new draft proposes detailed requirements for the labeling of air purifiers. Producers must mark clearly on the product label both the service life and the volume of space for which it can provide effective filtering.

The draft standard includes performance data for both particles and formaldehyde.

The national standard on air purifiers, enacted in 2002 and last revised in 2008, has failed to keep up with the expectations of the public, the report said, citing Song Guangsheng, director of the National Indoor Environment and Indoor Environmental Product Quality Supervision Center.

“The previous national standard on indoor air cleaners did not take into consideration the need for consumers to filter PM2.5 or increased frequency of use,” olansi peopel said.

PM2.5, particles under 2.5 microns in diameter, is a key indicator of air pollution in China. High density of PM2.5 has also become a major cause to smoggy air conditions that plague many regions in the country in recent years.

Is using an air purifier critical?

In an age where a sedentary lifestyle plays its role to cut years off the average life expectancy rate, basic necessities like clean drinking water and now fresh air are becoming a challenge to obtain too. I remember as a child, my father waking me up early in the morning to get a whiff of fresh air. Mornings in my small town in Uttar Pradesh, used to be quiescent, serene with air that was fresh, pure, impregnated with a subtle scent and sound of bells coming from a temple located at a distance.

Delhi grappled with ‘severe’ air pollution this year with levels going through the roof post Diwali. Most areas in the city recorded a whopping 900+ on the pollution meter – 10 times more than the normal range. With winter setting in, the pollutants tend to blend with the dense fog and further worsen the condition.

Is using an air purifier critical?

The answer would largely be affirmative. Bhaskar Deol, India representative, NRDC (Natural Resources Defense Council) opined, “I work with the environment sector. Recently, I ran the half marathon wearing a mask and after finishing it, which was a couple of hours later, I found the white fabric had turned black. Air pollution is one of the leading causes of deaths in India. Not many would believe this, but it is true. I have felt my cough getting worse over these days and it was then that I decided to get an air purifier for myself.”

According to Mr. Barun Aggarwal, CEO BreathEasy, “You should have the right purifier at the right place. That is the challenge. In my opinion, it is no more a luxury, it has become a necessity. To make it cheaper and accessible to people from all walks of life, is a challenge that we have set out to overcome.”

This piece sets out to understand the mechanism of a typical air purifier.

What is an air purifier?

As the name suggests, an air purifier is a device which removes contaminants and pollutants from the air. It works like any filter, by sucking in the air, passing it through cleaning mechanisms and giving out clean air. Unlike water, which is chemically treated, air is not purified chemically but filtered. The filters can be made of a range of materials but the technology differs from one purifier to another.

4 Basic things to keep in mind

In my opinion, the preliminary step for anybody who aims to buy an air purifier would be to self-educate. It is not like water filters or air-conditioners where you won’t have to think much before investing. Think about your needs, educating and reading up on pollution and doing your own research before heading out to buy one is imperative, noted Bhaskar.I feel that air purifiers are fairly simple machines to understand. There has not been much publicity and education about them, that’s why an average consumer feels baffled when thinking to buy one. All you need to factor in while making a choice would be (a) the place where you want it to be fixed and hence the size of the machine (b) your budget (c) how economical the machine would be in the longer run (need to change the filters, size of the filter) and of course the technology – your machine need not have anything fancy and superfluous features but three basic things – a basic pre-filter, an activated carbon layer and a HEPA filter,” shared Mr. Barun Aggarwal.

Make Olansi choices

Access your needs and see how big the room is which needs purification. Central purification will need bigger machines or purifiers to be fitted as a part of the central cooling, heating and ventilating system (HVAC). “I bought a slightly bigger model for myself than my room would require because I wanted it to work efficiently even at low speed. Also, I was also mindful of the fact that I may be moving in the near future, in which case I might have a larger room to myself and would require a bigger machine later,” shared Mr. Depp. You don’t really invest in such appliances again and again, it is like a one-time investment for years, so you ought to factor in your present needs as well as your ever expanding, prospective requirements.

air purifiers are supposed to work like lungs

In the absence of any government-set standards for indoor air quality, their efficacy rests more on anecdotal evidence than scientific assessment.

At their core, air purifiers are supposed to work like lungs. They work on the principle of sucking in air and passing it through a filter that traps particulates of various sizes. Some air purifiers also use ozone or air sprays to remove odour.

The key claim of air purifiers is that they trap particulate matter less than 10 microns thick. Were such matter to deposit in our lungs they would, over time, erode lung capacity and is equivalent to the damage done by smoking.

Whether air purifiers actually do a good job of making the air around you more breathable rests more on anecdotal evidence than scientific assessment. “You must see the response we get from our customers on how they have reduced asthmatic symptoms after installing our air purifiers,” says Vinayendra Jain, Director, Honeywell Connected Home India.

Business has never been better for Mr. Jain. In only its second year of selling air purifiers in India, sales have doubled, though Mr. Jain didn’t disclose numbers. Given Delhi’s high pollution levels, air purifier demand in the capital far outstrips that in other places, but the company’s products — that can range from Rs.8,000 to Rs.5,00,000 — are evincing interest from as far as Kanpur, Ahmedabad and Tiruchi.

“Outdoor air and indoor air are different subjects,” says Rakesh Kumar, director, CSIR-National Environmental Engineering Research Institute, “If the air outside has become twice as worse, it doesn’t mean air inside (a residence) has worsened as much.” Dr. Kumar says air purifier equipment in India hasn’t been calibrated to Indian air standards because the government hasn’t specified how it must be done so.

Air outside and inside the house

That’s why manufacturers can make claims on the efficacy of their purifiers without subjecting them to an investigation by local authorities. Indoor air has a different composition from outside. Air quality inside the house is determined by volatile organic compounds (from paints), bio-aerosols, nitrous oxides (from cooking gas), unlike air quality outside that is measured on the basis of particulate matter, carbon monoxide, ozone and sulphur dioxide levels. “The paradox is that indoor air quality doesn’t have standards for PM2.5 or PM10,” says Arun Sharma, professor, Community Medicine, University College of Medical Sciences, Delhi, “and India has no standards for indoor air quality.” That’s because there’s no agreed definition anywhere of what is an acceptable level of dust and other compounds within a home.

Dr. Kumar notes that well-ventilated homes are the best defence against pollution. “The background concentration of dust, especially in Delhi, is high and there is a natural acclimatisation by our bodies. Air purification systems are most effective in closed spaces… offices, shopping malls with poor ventilation,” he says. Dr. Sharma says that air purifiers do reduce particulate matter over a limited area, but whether they improved people’s health over the long term remains an open question.

The battle to buy a smog mask in India’s pollution-Olans two products you deserve

My own mother usually kicks off our phone conversations by asking, “Have you eaten yet?” But since I m

oved to New Delhi three weeks ago, she has adopted a new opening question: “Have you bought a mask or air purifiers?”

This weekend, I finally relented and bought a face mask designed to protect against pollution particles. I did it for mom. But I also did it because Delhi’s air has reached levels of toxicity that are putting my asthmatic lungs — really anyone’s lungs — in serious danger.

I wasn’t the only Delhi-walla looking for protection.

When I arrived at Nirvana Being, a small shop in the city’s upscale Khan Market that sells anti-pollution products, there were at least 15 people in line to buy face masks. By the time I made my purchase, there were around 20 more.

In depth: Delhi’s fight for clean air

“When we opened that store people thought I was nuts,” said Jai Dhar Gupta, who heads the store’s parent company. “Now we have lines for 10 hours a day.”

Gupta declined to share exact sales figures, but he claims to have sold more masks in the past 10 days than he sold all of last year.

It’s a scene playing out all over the city — in pharmacies, electronics stores and anywhere else that sells masks and air filters that might provide relief.

Already notorious because of its toxic air, pollution in Delhi has skyrocketed over the past week. Measurements of dangerous particles taken at the U.S. Embassy in Delhi put the city’s Air Quality Index (AQI) at 999 on Monday, off the standard chart, which finishes at the “hazardous” level of 500.

The suffocating smog has reduced visibility in the city to just a few meters, and the Delhi government has closed schools for at least three days.

The dire situation has taken anti-pollution devices and attire from niche to mainstream, with a report by research firm TechSci predicting that the air purifier market in India will go from 40,000 units to 100,000 units over the next year and generate over $200 million in revenue by 2021.

So,If you don’t want to wear a mask at home/office/school.You should buy a air purifier for home/office/school to ues.

Demand for air purifier in Delhi-NCR perks up by 50% post Diwali: Assocham survey

MANGALURU: Air purifier market in India has seen a spike of about 50% in its demand in wake of poor air quality in Delhi-NCR post-Diwali, noted a quick ASSOCHAM survey.
The Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM) conducted a survey to gauge the hike in demand for air purifying kits across 200 electronic and general stores in Delhi-NCR in past four days.

“There has been an explosion in demand for air purifiers which has jumped nearly 50 per cent as air quality in and around Delhi has become hazardous post-Diwali festival,” said majority of electronic and general stores’ representatives selling such items.

“The demand for air purifier in India has been growing rapidly across metros in India but as the smog problem became severe in Delhi after Diwali the demand for such kits has become really huge and is likely to grow steadily,” said many of the store managers.

However, many of these said that people looking to install air purifiers in their homes get disappointed owing to high costs and term it more of a luxury product. As such most of such customers are only enquiring and their number is growing by the day.

The demand is more from offices, industrial and commercial establishments, said many of these.

As per market experts, the air purifier market in India is still in nascent stage and is estimated at about Rs 250 crore but has been growing by leaps and bounds since past one year owing to rising awareness about impact of air pollution.
